This can occur in the calf, the foot or the thigh and they can also occur at night which causes many people to lose sleep and wake feeling tired and miserable the next day. In many cases, when the circulation of blood and oxygen to the legs is not good the person experiences these cramps. They are especially known to occur in older people and pregnant women. Another reason why leg cramps occur is the fact that the person is not drinking enough water.

When we do not drink enough water our body cannot transport all of the vitamins that we need to various parts of our anatomy. This means that we can get cramps and all it would take to get rid of them is to drink more water.

When there are mineral shortages in the body, these cramps also occur. The cramps might mean that you need to supply your body with calcium, potassium and magnesium. If you are not getting enough of them through the food that you eat then you might want to look at taking vitamins.

RLS, or Restless Leg Syndrome, occurs to certain people at night when they are attempting to sleep. They have pains in their feet and legs which can only be helped by moving them. Since this disorder is usually worsened during night time, many who suffer with it do not often get a good nights rest and so it affects them in various emotional and physical ways. Not only does it affect them but also their sleeping partners as they are also awakened by the movement.

While little in yet known of RLS, there are ways in which people are now combating the disorder. While it may take up to two years to diagnose with this disorder there are many ways in which you can treat it without having to use any kinds of medications. There are a variety of mineral and vitamin deficiencies which could lead to this problem. By taking these vitamins you may prevent the problem from occurring.
