Common Types Of Sleep Disorder

Different types of sleep disorder affect millions of people every year. Knowing the kinds that you may be suffering from can help you find a spring board into opening a discussion with your health care provider so that you can rest better and have it be more refreshing. Be aware that just because you may have some of these symptoms, a doctor needs to diagnose you with them in order to have them properly addressed.

Types of Sleep DisorderSleep apnea is typically accompanied by excessive snoring, snorting and gasping for air while you are asleep. In most cases, this is noticed by your partner and the effects can be sleepiness during the day and waking up feeling like you have not slept that well. Some people experience headaches when they wake up, as well.

For those that find it hard to get to sleep and stay that way, they may have insomnia. They also can be waking too early and find that they are generally tired all the time. Insomnia is usually an indication of another underlying health problem and may not be the problem on its own.

RLS, or restless leg syndrome causes you to feel like you have to move your legs when you are lying down. It can also just be a feeling of itchy skin or that there are small bugs crawling over them. Some will kick while asleep and be unaware of it. This sometimes can leave the sufferer feeling unrested or cause difficulties in falling asleep, and partners may not be getting enough either.

Narcolepsy is more than just falling asleep at the drop of a hat during normal activities, although this is an indication of it. Usually those with this feel tired all the time that naps help to alleviate the feeling. Typically you will experience vivid dreams during the shirt naps and will enter into a heavier sleep faster than you should. Some experience loss of muscle control with emotions while awake and many report paralysis while they are asleep, and these both are common signs of this.

If you find that you may have one of these types of sleep disorder, then speak to your doctor. You need to consult them if you find that you doze off during normal activities like talking or driving or that you have no improvement over the quality of rest for several weeks or more or if you are on medication and it is offering you no relief.
